About year ago, when my girlfriend and I were on vacation, she read the Hunger Games trilogy and seemed pretty impressed and liked it. She made comments like “It’s quite brutal” and such. I was just catching up with the Harry Potter books and wasn’t really interested.
So, pretty much exactly one year later we go on vacation again and I don’t have any good books to read. She suggests I have a look at the Hunger Games trilogy. I wasn’t really convinced, but figured what’s too lose with taking a sneak peak. I started reading the first Hunger Games book and finished it within 3 days or something like that and was shocked. I mean I really like the whole concept behind the books and the language, the writing style, and all, but it is really brutal.
Don’t get me wrong, I watch brutal movies regularly like any other guy, and I wasn’t repelled by the book at all. But it does appear so sad how they describe the writer describes the lives of the people in the districts. With the reapings and all, it just makes it almost unbearable to think that humans could be so cruel and violent.
I have already started the second one Hunger Games: Catching Fire and it goes in the exact same direction as the first one. I like it again, of course, but I really do wonder how people can be like that. Of course, these books are all fiction, I get it, but to even make something up like that, begs the question, might we be able to be so cruel and brutal. Like animals.
Did you read the Hunger Games books? I would love to hear what you thought about them, please don’t give away anything from the other two books, as I haven’t yet read them, will let you know once I’m done with those naturally.
But please do tell, how did it make you feel?
